It works with any foam, hybrid or latex mattress. The one exception is a traditional innerspring with a rigid border rod - those do not bend, and forcing one will damage it.
It can sit inside most standard bed frames, or stand on its own legs.
For a King or Cal King, the split version is two independent bases - that is what lets one person sit up to read while the other stays flat.
