About Mattress Upgrades
When an upgrade solves the problem, and when it does not
Be honest about which problem you have, because these fix one and not the other.
- Right support, too hot: a cooling cover or pillow top is the correct fix and far cheaper than a new mattress.
- Slightly too firm: a cooling pillow top adds a modest comfort layer as well as cooling the surface.
- Sagging, dipped or over eight years old: nothing you put on top will help. The support core is the problem and it needs replacing.
- Waking with pressure pain on your side: usually a support issue rather than a surface one, so start with the side sleeper range instead.
Cover, pillow top or CoolForce layer
A cooling cover replaces the surface you sleep against and adds almost no height, so the feel of your mattress stays exactly as it is. A cooling pillow top adds both the cool surface and a layer of comfort material, which softens the bed slightly. The CoolForce combinations pair the cover with an additional layer for people who sleep hot enough that surface conduction alone has not been enough.
Fit matters more than people expect. These are sized to specific mattress depths, so bring your mattress model and height along and we will match it properly rather than guessing.
If it turns out to be the mattress
Sometimes the honest answer is that the bed is finished. If yours is sagging or you have had it a decade, compare purpose-built cooling mattresses, where the cooling is engineered through every layer rather than added on top, or the coolest-sleeping models we carry. Pairing a new mattress with an adjustable base and protecting it with a mattress protector is how you keep it performing for its full warranty.
Not sure which category you fall into? Bring in your mattress model name, or a photo of it from the side, to the Richmond showroom or the Katy showroom. We will tell you straight whether a $150 cover fixes it, and we would rather sell you the cover than the wrong mattress.
